1. The natives are divided into four classes which must marry on certain lines. The class names are as follows :-

Kurramarra, Booroonga, Turraroo and Boolgooloo.

Kurramarra man marries Booroonga woman; children Boolgooloo

Booroonga man marries Kurramarra woman; children Turraroo

Turraroo man marries Boolgooloo woman; children Booroonga

Boolgooloo man marries Turraroo woman; children Kurrawarra.

2. Initiation of youths consists of knocking out tooth, circumcision or subincision. Initiation ceremony of women consists of vulvotomy.

3. On the birth of a female child she is allotted to a certain boy or man of the right class, and after initiation she becomes his wife. She is also allotted to several other men to whom she passes at the death of her husband, or to whom he may if he likes, lend her. The husband has absolute power of life and death over her.

5. A shallow hole is scooped out about four or five feet long and two feet wide. The corpse is laid in the hole on its back, with knees drawn up. 13. Wounds are treated by rubbing in a handful of dry dust or ashes and then tied up with a bandage of string. The only remedy in sickness consists of mobbingarra, treating the patient for stones in the inside of seat of pain. He either draws them out with his hands by rubbing or sucks them out with his mouth. No herbal remedies known of here, apparently.

25. Water is obtained from the root of cork trees and also the roots of a kind of prickly mimosa known locally as "Dead Finish".
27. No future state known of and they do not believe in ghosts. When a man dies he is considered to be done with and no spirit is left behind. They say that the dead blacks jump up white-fellow, but I think that it is only a story started by the whites themselves.
28. They believe that most sicknesses are caused by witchcraft, and almost all deaths are so caused. They also believe that certain other tribes can make rain come. There is one "mobbinjerra" or sorcerer in district, probably more who can cure sickness. The usual cause of sickness is by stones which have been projected into them by witchery, and the mobbinjerra effect cures by removing these stones, usually by sucking them out.
31. The only intelligence they can convey by smoke signals is that a party of blacks is approaching. The other blacks usually know the members of the approaching party and when to expect them, so when they see the smoke they know who is coming.
32. Short periods are calculated by the number of sleeps, but only for a limited number as they do not count more than three. Then they go by the number of moons and also for longer periods by the seasons for which they have specific names.
