NATIVE VOCABULARY

Compiled by

Beedee, m., Bailberin (Billy Wilson),

Gweea or Minalla, m.

Of Karratjibbin, between Southern Cross and Mt. Jackson

also Booring'oop (Burracoppin)

SOUTHERN CROSS MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT

Wanmala kabboon = wanmala people

This is an interesting vocabulary as it comes from a group whose marriage laws "Will be unique as to rouse Dr. Andrew Lang's (Edinburgh) belief that they could not exist! & Dr. Lang commended me to obtain the pedigrees of every living member of the Karratjibbin group. An appalling task but accomplished even to Dr. Lang satisfaction. Only a few numbers were living & these were scattered over hundreds of miles, Hence the value of this small vocabulary to the Philologist & Anthropologist in the Australia of the future. Daisy M Bates 1940

The genealagies are in the Section Genealagies in these archives.
